The Rock Gets A New Look In Latest FAST 8 Photo

If there's one thing that the Fast And Furious franchise has achieved in its 15-year history, it is its ability to take a seemingly rigid character or philosophy, embrace it and mold it into an evolution of itself that works in the most interesting of ways. That especially seems to be an underlying theme when it comes to the lawmakers and lawbreakers, namely actor Paul Walker at the time in the role of undercover officer Brian O'Connor on a mission to bring lead actor Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto to justice.

The film ultimately became the first building blocks toward what would become an arc bigger than what one film could achieve and after 2 Fast 2 Furious and The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift, the helmer of the latter, Justin Lin, oversaw this theme brilliantly for the next three films, including the 2011 movie, Fast Five where Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson stepped into the arena as D.S.S. Agent Luke Hobbs. Just as the first film did, fitting performances and nuances within the script helped pave the way toward the birth of a new alliance between two opposite ends of the law. Thus, it's been a tremendous experience to observe in Furious 6 and Furious Seven in the last three years, and all while obscure studio talk of potentially spinning-off Hobbs into a franchise of his own continues to rumble forward with every explosive car chase and action sequences throughout the franchise.

It's actually hilarious because I know at least one guy, personally, who thinks Hobbs sucks at his job. He may have a point, although his perspective may change in the next few years as the studio decides what to do in this regard while Johnson heads back on set, and as so stated before, with a VERY interesting turn here for F. Gary Gray's Fast 8 releasing on April 14, 2017. The film recently completed some scenes in Cuba with other locations pending, and the official social media accounts are rolling out with periodic video updates to show for the filmmakers' efforts like the one at the top of the page.

That effort also extends, often at times, to the cast, and currently with Johnson's own official Facebook page now sporting a new photo featuring a twisted, less formal iteration of Hobbs, and with a caption that among other things, hints greatly at where and how he now fits in the narrative.
When you strip a man of all he has. All that's important to him. You force him to return to his roots.. and sometimes that's a very dangerous and twisted place.
If I was going to return for another Fast & Furious I wanted to come in and disrupt the franchise in a cool way that got fans fired up and their blood pumping to see a new version of Hobbs and his "Daddy's gotta go to work" mentality and set the table in a cool way for where the character goes in the future.
Maybe it's a spinoff movie. Maybe it's more #FF movies. Or hell maybe Hobbs just gets on his motorcycle and rides off into the sunset never to be seen again.
Either way, I've had a solid first week of shooting, good to be back with the ohana, good to work again w/ my bud and director F. Gary Gray and our home studio of Universal Studios Entertainment, as always have been the best partners to me and my Seven Bucks Productions team. Most importantly... you guys around the world will really dig this new version of the role, 'cause as we always say, disrupters dent the universe.

Johnson himself has been piling up with his Seven Bucks banner greatly. Universal Pictures is housing Johnson's forthcoming movieverse franchise for The Janson Directive along with a sequel to San Andreas and a foray into television called Boost Unit to name a few. Indeed, he's got his work cut out for him, but I don't think people will be too dissonant over a "Hobbs" franchise if it got one. Clearly Johnson has earned his appeal with this franchise and I'm sure fans will support him nonetheless.

The Fast And The Furious is re-releasing in theaters on June 22. Click here for more info!
