Russian/Chinese Adventure Epic, VIY 2, Casts Jackie Chan And Jason Statham

Oleg Stepchenko is currently filming his latest sequel endeavor, Viy 2 following the success of his arduously-produced first film  released in 3D back in 2014 with actors Jason Flemying and Charles Dance starring. As such, set video can be seen online as recently as February featuring action star Jackie Chan's stunt team on the set of the new film which now adds Rutger Hauer and actress Anna Yao, and now leads to some exciting news that actor Jason Statham will also star.

Reportedly the first-ever join Russian-Chinese film production, writer Aleksandr Karpov is back penning the new movie, of which both are inspired by Russian author Nikolai Gogol's 1835 manuscript of the same name. Flemying, whose select shared credits with Statham includes Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels and Transporter 2, returns as cartographer Jonathan Green who now finds himself on a new adventure in China after being commissioned by Peter The Great to draw maps of Russia's Far East.

A date remains pending while Stathan and Chan are currently bound for other titles of their own - to name a few - including Chan's Skiptrace which isn't too far off from its release in Asia while he completes the tentatively-titled Pierce Brosnan co-starrer, The Foreigner. Statham, newly cast for the upcoming shark thriller, Meg, is expected to appear this August in the action sequel, Mechanic: Resurrection with Jessica Alba and Michelle Yeoh.
