Paramount: No 'Terminator' Sequel In 2017
Deadline and various trades sites are now saying the film has been pulled from its May 19, 2017 slot with Seth Gordon's Baywatch film adaptation taking its place.
Paramount Pictures released director Alan Taylor's rebooted sci-fi epic last summer, budgeted at $155 million with a gross of $440 million thanks to foreign releases. The film only made $89 million at home but some speculated that overseas sales would have sustained the sequel with a third planned for 2019.
However, the sentiment surrounding the film hasn't been hugely positive. I can't speak fully on the film since I haven't seen it yet and I'm sure I will in due time, but it's understandable why the studio isn't exactly ready to dip into something that clearly didn't fully work for its domestic interests.
Gordon's Baywatch begins shooting this Spring with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Zac Efron leading its cast. As for Schwarzenegger, his next appearance will be in Protozoa Pictures's gripping new revenge thriller, 478 from director Elliott Lester with Mariana Klaveno and Scoot McNairy starring.
