Guess Which Martial Artist Is Training For Her Role In CAMP X-RAY?

Who do you think of when you think of martial arts action stars? Automatically, the names Jackie Chan, Tony Jaa, Jet Li, Scott Adkins and Iko Uwais pop into your head. You don't even have to think about it, especially if you're a martial arts fan.

And on that note....Kristen Stewart.

What?

Yep! The woman has been training in martial arts since she was FIVE years old. Now, between then and now, no one would have guessed she was an athlete. Sure, she slayed a few demons in Snow White And The Huntsman, and gone hunting with Vampires and Werewolves in the Twilight Saga, but apparently, that's not all she's capable of. Point in fact, it may be that she's capable of a lot more, according to a "mole" quoted over at Daily Star who said "No-one knows this but Kristen is a martial arts expert, she’s practised karate since her fifth birthday."

This bit of surprising news comes into knowledge of her next production from writer Peter Sattler's 2014 directorial debut, Camp X-Ray, which is being produced by Gina Kwon and Sophia Lin, and executive produced by David Gordon Green, Lindsay Williams and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein. The film was announced back in June with Stewart to play the lead as a young woman who joins the military to escape from small town life, only to end up being posted at Guantanamo Bay where she is undermined by the Muslim men in her unit, and ultimately befriends an 8-year inmate.

Don't get your hopes up, as the film is being pitched as a drama more than anything, but the fact of the matter is that Stewart being trained by a former Lebanese army solider for her latest role say a LOT to me; She's also set to reprise her titular character in Snow White And The Huntsman 2 with David Koepp inheriting the director's seat from the first film.

Furthermore, I hesitate to think Stewart will be forthcoming in an abundance of action roles now that this is out in the open, particularly since her roles have largely been dramatic. But I guess we will wait and see what happens next, as whether or not she decides to use her martial arts training to take on the image of an action star is entirely up to her.. to which I add... WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN, MY CHILD??? :-P

QUESTION: Do you want to see Kirsten Stewart evolve as an action star in future films? Let us know your thoughts below, or on Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus or Pinterest.

  1. Colour me surprised. To be honest, I think she takes a lot of shit for being in a bunch of shit movies. Strip away the Twi-Hard crap and she's a pretty good actress - good luck to her, I'd LOVE to see her in action roles (I've not seen SWatHM, but I've heard she did OK in that).

It's just a pity her first action was was fighting and being taken out by Blade like in that "How Twilight should have ended" meme that was going around!
